If you can't seem to lose weight no matter what you do, most likely your metabolism has stopped working...
I've been learning about the discoveries doctors and researchers have been making about metabolism, one thing I read recently is that if you have more than 30 pounds to lose to reach your ideal weight you are almost certainly insulin resistant.
Insulin resistance is different than metabolic syndrome, but both share a commonality, your body has stopped being sensitive enough to insulin to use your calories effectively. You are storing your calories, especially sugar, instead of burning them, that is why nothing you try is working.
The news gets worse....even if you get everything "right" with dieting and exercise, since you have a broken metabolism it will make your body store even more fat... Eating a low fat diet very frequently while doing intense cardio will most likely make you GAIN weight.
UGH!
I'm going to give you some key first steps if you believe you're insulin resistant and what you've been doing isn't working.
1. Embrace Good Fats and get off the Sugar Roller Coaster. Eating refined sugar or starch while trying to be "low-fat" will continuously put your blood sugar on a roller coaster, every time your blood glucose goes up your body will have no choice but to store some of it as fat, because your cells are not sensitive enough to insulin to use the calories, it has to store them so your blood does not become overloaded.
Embrace good fats, vegetables and protein as outlined in our book below or on our website. The process of getting your cells to be sensitive again takes time. Warning, eating more fat goes against EVERYTHING we've ever learned about dieting, its hard to trust that it will work.
2. Eat 3 times per day, allowing 4-5 hours in between meals. You should be eating meals that keep you full for at least 4 hours, this means they have enough fiber and protein that they are breaking down slowly and not spiking your blood sugar. You can work up to this point, if you need a snack between lunch and dinner then plan for it and move your dinner later.
3. You must start walking every day. Walking will reeducate your metabolism. Walk 45 to 60 minutes daily or less if you are just starting. Walking will help make you most sensitive to insulin.
