  • 6 Spices Effective For Burning Belly Fat

Did you know that some of the spices you use at home are very effective in doing away with belly fat and help you get into shape? Belly fat is the most stubborn fat to do away with, even if you are eating well and exercising regularly. I have always added a variety of spices to my meals and drinks so as to increase the flavor and also help burn the stubborn fat.

Particular spices are meant to quicken your metabolism, have a fat burning capacity and curb your appetite hence help you in your pursuit of losing weight.

Ginger is one of the common spices that we use in our homes, and it is loaded with potent antioxidants, which help in relieving stomach upsets and also burning fat by speeding up the metabolism. Ginger can be added to soup, salad dressings and in tea for soothing digestion.

Another good spice is cinnamon which I use on almost everything.  Cinnamon contains antioxidants called polyphenols which improve insulin sensitivity, stabilizes glucose levels in the body and alter body composition.  It also has an excellent source of calcium and fiber, which are good for fastening your metabolism and building muscles. Add a teaspoon of cinnamon to your smoothie to suppress hunger and stabilize blood sugars, and this will lead to a smaller waist.

Adding a little hotness to your meals by use of cayenne pepper will also help in burning belly fat. Cayenne has a chemical called capsaicin, which boosts metabolism to burn abdominal fat and reduces your appetite. The recommended amount each day for maximum benefits is taking about 20-30 grams of which you can sprinkle on meat, fish, eggs, salsa or deserts.

Turmeric is also another great spice that has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects in the body. Curcumin which is a phytochemical in turmeric, curbs inflammation in the body and this gives the body's receptiveness to leptin which fastens metabolism. It also helps reduce fat in the liver by assisting the liver to metabolize other fats that have been stored from excess refined carbs and sugar.

Black pepper is known to aid in digestion, treat multiple stomach problems, increase metabolism and raise body temperature.  It contains a chemical compound known as piperine which prevents the formation of new fat cells i.e. adipogenesis, and it signals the body to produce hydrochloric acid which aids in the digestion of proteins and other foods.  This result to decrease in body fat, waist size, and cholesterol levels.

Finally, the mustard seed is another great spice that increases your metabolic rate by about 25% with its effects lasting to about 3 hours in the body.  Mustard has a high fiber content which helps in digestion and makes one feel full for a longer period and has low amounts of calories in them. It has a plant compound called homo brassinolide which stimulates the muscle cells to increase muscle mass and lead body and also has melatonin, which stimulates the “beige fat” which burns fat and helps regulate body weight.

  • Friday Food Focus Healthy Gut Bacteria

I knoooowwwww you don't want to think more about food, because OMG there's just too many recipes, diet books and all sorts of other discussions about FOOD! I'm sick of it too. SO, let's talk about health, about feeling GREAT more of the freaking time! Try to focus on eating good food 75% of the time and you will see improvements in this area. It's not about being perfect, its about feeling better.

So, I know you want to keep bloating at bay! I hear about this problem ALOT. Keeping your good gut bacteria happy is one of the best ways to ensure that you have good digestion. Our Mermaid Cove Metabolism Tea is especially good at helping heal guts, get rid of bloating and increasing digestion. A lot of what you think may be excess weight could be bloating and water trapped in your tissues because your body's balance is off.

Steps to get more Good Gut Bacteria

    1. Eat a fiber-rich, whole foods diet—it should be rich in beans, nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables—all of which feed good bugs. Coconut Flour is especially fiber rich and can be added to recipes to increase the fiber count, but don't overdo it.  Fermented Foods are also great for gut bacteria.

    2. Limit all sugar, processed foods, conventionally raised animal fats —these provide food for unhealthy bugs.

    3. Avoid the use of antibiotics, acid blockers, and anti-inflammatories as in pain relievers, they let bad bacteria grow.

    4. Take probiotics daily—these healthy, friendly flora can improve your digestive health and reduce inflammation and allergies. Our eat foods that are pre and pro biotic!

    5. Stress can damage your intestinal ecosystem, learn coping techniques and actively reduce stress and increase joy.

    6. Intense exercise seems to increase gut diversity in a positive manner, but findings are preliminary.

    To your health and happiness,

  • Why You NEED a Gold Star!!

First of all, congratulations for being here. You rock!
You are putting yourself first and making sure you are getting what you want,
    that's rare and its awesome!
Remember less than 2% of people have goals that are written down,
and they succeed at reaching their goals more than all the rest of the 98% combined!!
Which are you? Do you have goals for this challenge?
How will you know if you succeed unless you can measure yourself?
I want to talk today about the "Clean Plate Club" and how people think about themselves as "good."
Most likely when you were a little child your parents rewarded you for eating  all your food, you received praise, dessert or just avoided being punished when you at it all!
You were inducted to the "Clean Plate Club!"
They actually reinforced an idea in your mind that to please them you had to eat whatever was on your plate.
But that is not the case any longer!
Today you get to decide what is good for you!
That means you don't have to eat everything on your plate, you can save it, you can share it, you can throw it away!
You get to decide what goes in your body, how much it needs and you can say NO to eating everything!
One of the best strategies is to begin changing how you see yourself, to redefine what you think of as praise.
Because we still are conditioned to believe following these old rules is a good thing, our brain still gives us internal praise when we do them!!
You need to move up the priority of your health and well-being, your weight loss and eating habits. You need to give yourself some rules and some praise when you achieve them!
It sounds difficult, but it just takes a bit of attention.
Start with "I drink tea before every meal," and "I eat protein, water, fiber and healthy fat at every meal" and "I eat enough to be satisfied."
Then praise yourself when you accomplish them, notice when you feel better, you have less bloating, your clothes fit better, or you have more energy. Notice the subtle changes, because that is how these small things become habits, we reinforce them to ourselves.
You will have to be brave and strong to make changes, if you need to set an alarm on your phone, make a reward chart with old school gold stars or use something you really want to purchase as a goal reaching bribe. Maybe you need to get someone to help you make these changes?

Whatever works for you: DO IT!
Today is the last day to get our 21 day Newport Skinny Tea on sale and receive a free fruit infusing water bottle with purchase! ($20 Value no code needed!)
And when you finish the challenge just submit your testimonial with photos to receive our three new fall tea flavors in September! ($75 value!)
    YOU CAN DO THIS!

  • Speed Up Weight Loss with California Citrus Detox Bath Salts

First of all, congrats for showing up!
I always want to recognize you!
And let you know that you're doing a great job!
This month I want to bring you ways to enhance your health through changes made in your beauty routine and enhance your beauty made through changes in what you eat, drink and how you exercise and relax.
If any of this feels overwhelming, just do what you can. Detoxing and weight loss are both cumulative and geometric. (Yes I did have some extra caffeine this morning!)
This means that that if you do 1 thing you're going to get a direct result, but if you do two things, you are going to get 3, 4 or possibly more results from the combined effect that the two things have together.
Unfortunately, the same is true for toxic substances, for example when you take pain reliever after you have had too much alcohol, together they're much worse for your liver than they would be separately.
Adding Epsom salts to your bath once a week is an easy thing to do, if you combined it with more efforts, you'll see results faster.
These are the Epsom Salts I recommend: Epsoak Epsom Salts
How are Epsom Salts different than sea salt?
Epsom salts are named after a spring in Epsom in Surrey, England. Epsom salts are a naturally occurring mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. Epsom Salts enhance the natural detoxification of our bodies through our skin, plus they add greatly needed magnesium.

How do they draw out toxins?

Magnesium and sulfate are both quickly absorbed through the skin and into our blood. The skin is a highly porous membrane that both takes in minerals and eliminates toxins every day. Using a powerful mineral base such as Epsom salts in a bathwater creates a process called reverse osmosis, which pulls excess salt and harmful toxins out of the body and allows the magnesium and sulfates in through the skin. Orange and Lemon peels are also highly detoxifying, essential oils contain concentrated oil from the citrus peel as well.
As we know, toxins stored in the body fat are a major reason why weight loss can be halted or slow.

    What else does it do?

Magnesium plays a role in over 325 enzymes, helps to improve muscle and nerve function, reduces inflammation and improves blood flow and oxygenation throughout the body. Sulfates are necessary building blocks for healthy joints, skin and nervous tissue. Epsom salts replenish the body's magnesium levels and sulfates. The combination helps to flush toxins from the body and helps build protein molecules in the brain tissues and joints.

The use of Epsom Salt has been shown to improve the symptoms of many health conditions including athlete's foot, gout, toenail fungus, sprains, bruises and muscle soreness. It is also good for anyone dealing with chronic disease or chronic pain to do regular Epsom baths to help detoxify and reduce inflammation while improving mineral and sulfur content in the body.
Sulfur is known as the beauty mineral and will make your skin, hair and nails stronger and more beautiful. Magnesium will help you feel relaxed, help tense muscles relax and help you sleep better.

    California Citrus Detox Bath Salts
1/4 cup lemon peel, shaved with a micro planer
1-2 cups orange peel, shaved with a micro planer
    essential oils
    2 pounds Epsom salts
Mix all ingredients together, make sure you dilute your essential oils with a carrier oil, put 1 pound in your bath and relax 20-40 minutes.

  • Essential Tips to Fight Food Cravings

Newport Skinny Tea is designed to help you with your food cravings, but sometimes cravings persist... generally when I dig deeper, its because someone is trying to drink NST and keep eating a really poor diet that does not support their body at all, which creates what I call an awful CRAVINGS CYCLE...

If you think that your food cravings are only a result of your emotions, urging you to eat foods that are not good for your health then you need to think again. Nutritionists suggest that there is a lot more to food cravings than just emotional urges. According to nutritionists your cravings can also be the result of fatigue and stress that tend to lower the blood sugar and nutrient levels in your body. Your body is crying out for NUTRIENTS to balance itself.

This, in turn, causes your hormones to go haywire and you end up eating foods that contain high amounts of sugar to try to feel better. While, these foods can satisfy your cravings at the time, your body won’t be getting the essential nutrients that boost energy levels and repair itself. And when your energy is zero, you just end up eating more junk food. However, there are ways you can tackle your junk food cravings and get out of the negative craving cycle you may be stuck in:

    Distract Yourself

Nutritionists suggest that food cravings usually last for only fifteen minutes and if you can convince yourself to wait for these fifteen minutes, the craving is likely to pass away. You can distract yourself by going out for a walk, reading a book or doing some light exercises that might compel you to eat something healthy after. Worst distraction: TV, which may have commercials designed to entice you to eat more. Best distraction: journaling about what is bugging you!

    Knowing the Trigger

Before you start eating unhealthy foods it is important understand factors that trigger your appetite in the first place. For example, if you feel like eating 2 bags of chips, gulping it down with 3 cans of coke after work then you might be under a lot of job stress. Poor consumption of water can also trigger your thirst for carbonated drinks. You may also be skipping meals, to tackle your triggers it is important to have your meals on time along with eating natural fruit sugar to calm your cravings. It is also important that you deal with your stress rather than suppressing it, deep breathing, meditation, exercise and our Sunset Beach Relaxing Tea can help get your stress levels under control.

    Keep Track

Keep a track of when your food cravings hit you if you notice that these have become a regular occurrence with you. If you notice that these occur after dinner around 8 pm at night then probably you owe these to an emotional factor. Figure out why you have been under stress lately, it takes some honesty but in the end you will become free of your emotional stress eating. Ultimately, you need to put yourself first, making sure that you are getting what you need from the people around you to feel supported.

However, if these occur somewhere around 3 pm then it may be a sign that your body’s nutritional needs are not being fulfilled. Look into your diet and try to figure out what is lacking, are you consuming the right amount of protein? Are eating fruits and vegetables? It is important to find the right balance in your diet, remember the hormonal influence of each meal lasts a maximum of 5 hours, then you have another chance to get it right. Don’t waste one minute feeling bad about what you have eaten, this will only lead to more stress, just plan to get it right the next time.

    Allow Yourself to Indulge Occasionally

Telling yourself that you will never eat another Dorito or Krispy Kreme as long as you live will probably backfire on you, if you truly love eating a particular junk food, the best way to keep it under control is to plan to eat it occasionally, which means once a week or less. If you know that you are completely helpless when certain foods are in the house, only buy it when you go out, and do not bring it into the house. At holiday celebrations, make sure you fill up on the healthiest options first, then let yourself have whatever treat you want. One meal is not going to ruin you so enjoy your family’s celebration, just don’t let the indulging become consistent for you.

Sincerest wishes that this helps you during the holiday season!

    Jennifer
    XOXO
