  • Why You Cant Lose Weight: Calories Dont Matter

First of all, how are you doing on your challenge?
Great I hope, keep at it, remember that small actions taken every day soon become your life.
We are a multitude of habits, and the only way to change your life is by making habits that support the change you want to see part of your daily life.
So, the great news now is that real progress is finally being made regarding women and the metabolic effects of food on them.
If you did not know, 95%+ of medical studies done regarding metabolic effects of foods and exercise are on college age men. WHY? Because they are monetarily efficient.
When you pay for a study, you want some results. College age men typically out perform all other sub groups of people.
However this seems to be a time when doctors, researchers and companies are waking up to the fact that women over 35 do not respond like a college age man to their suggestions. In fact, much of what might work for the men might actually make things worse for older women!!
I'm not going to say its exactly cohesive research, but progress is happening.
One especially exciting development, even though it applies to both men and women, is that medical doctors are finally waking up to the metabolic effects of food and drinks.
Forever we have heard that a "calorie is a calorie" and like I've been saying for years now, a calorie is definitely not a calorie. In fact, sometimes I wonder how you could get something MORE wrong?
Still we cling to this notion of calories, as if our body is some sort of gas tank. It's not.  I know, this may be painful for some of you to really acknowledge, its even painful for me sometimes still, but calories really don't matter all that much.
As the renowned nephrologist Dr Jason Fung states "Here’s the bottom line truth. ‘Calories’ is NOT a physiologic concept, just as ‘weight of food’ is not a physiologic concept. Both are unit borrowed from physics. Longing for mathematical precision, obesity experts have severe ‘physics envy’, and try to shoehorn the useless physiologic concept of calories into a human biology that does not accept it."
If you'd like to experience true next-level food nerd science than you can read his full article: "The Useless Concept of Calories."
So what does this have to do with tea? Quite a bit actually, because two of the main obesity promoting components of food are inflammation and insulin resistance.
Both are caused in part by what you eat, and tea can help fight and reverse both of them as well.
There are many other aspects that need to be addressed when dealing with both of these topics, but remember that small habits over time will yield exponential results. Keep drinking your tea and tomorrow I will be back with more about how you can tame the inflammation and insulin resistance that is causing weight gain and so many other issues.

  • Keep Fatigue Away With These Herbal Teas

After a hard or a busy day, fatigue will wear you down, and you need to rest.  Fatigue is a sign that your body is exhausted and if you don’t sleep, you will have a problem with catching up with your daily life.  At times, you need more than the rest because it may be difficult even to sleep; hence you should get a good body cleanse to do away with any toxins affecting body function.  Most people will take coffee to fight fatigue, but this temporarily takes away the feeling of tiredness but ultimately drains your adrenal glands. Teas are restorative long-term while providing short-term energy, which is why herbal teas are highly recommended as the best in fighting fatigue.

Herbal teas are an infusion of dried parts of a plant either from the roots, leaves, bark, seed or leaves.  Studies have shown that they are effective for reducing stress and aiding sleep and fight off fatigue much better than coffee or regular tea.  They contain a hydrating element which counters fatigue and concentration which is caused by dehydration, and they increase your energy levels naturally.

Ginkgo Biloba is an old surviving tree species that is well known to reduce fatigue, enhance oxygen utilization and increase blood flow to the brain hence improving memory retention and concentration.  When you are fatigued, you have high amounts of oxidative stress, so when you take Ginkgo biloba, it protects the adrenal glands, liver from the damaging free radicals. Your energy levels are heightened, and it stimulates the circulatory system.
Licorice is another herb for restoration and is a well known herb that helps rebuild the damaged adrenal glands. It contains glycyrrhizin which enhances body cortisol activity, hence increasing energy and reducing fatigue. It is also an anti-stress mood booster and stabilizes your blood sugar levels, hence reduce craving for sweet and caffeine, which can cause an “energy crash” when you take them.

Ginseng is known for resilience and enhancing energy when you have stress related fatigue it increases the body’s ability to handle stress, supports a healthy adrenal function and reduces fatigue.  If you are stressed then taking ginseng tea will help combat depression and reduce fatigue by increasing vitality and improving circulation.

Green tea is commonly taken for various reasons, but it has benefits in fighting stress-related fatigue, boosting your energy and improving mental focus.  It contains antioxidants called polyphenols that reduce the stress hormone and protects the body against any illness related to fatigue.  It is a healthy alternative to coffee as it contains much less caffeine.

You can get these teas in most local supermarkets or even order them online. Make sure that you get brands that contain the above herbs so as to get maximum benefits. Eliminate caffeine when fatigued as it will put you in a roller-coaster and embrace herbal teas to keep you refreshed and energized naturally.

  • 1st-- YOU REALLY ARE FANTASTIC

First of all, I believe in you.
I know you can do ANYTHING. Whatever. The. Hell. You. Want.
    What about you?
Are you sure? Have you committed to YOU?
Unless you are ALL IN, part of you is still expecting to fail. So here, let's make a pact together to really commit to ourselves and what we want.
What do you want? Why do you want it?
Mostly we want things that we feel will make us "happy" which never really seem to pay off. Have you noticed that external things and even people, never really seem to pay off the way you want them to?
Happiness is an inside job, happiness is knowing YOU ARE WORTH IT.
Worth it? Okaaaaayyyy says my inner 12 year old, raised on Loreal commercials and sarcasm...
But its true, you are worth the time it takes, the money it takes, the attention it takes, the absolute effing and real loyalty, honesty, blood, sweat and tears it takes, the soul baring moment when you say THIS IS NO LONGER ENOUGH, I WANT MY LIFE TO BE THE SHIT!
Your happiness is worth all of it, BUT ONLY YOU CAN CLAIM IT.
And I'm not just talking, its my truth, its what was at the end of my rainbow and it is the POT OF GOLD you've been looking for.
See, I know what its like to struggle, to settle, to wonder.... am I good enough? And to LOOK AND LOOK AND LOOK for the answer... OUT THERE.
    The answer isn't out there.
As you can tell, I'm PASSIONATE about this topic.
I'm passionate about YOU finding YOUR BODY, LIFE, SOUL SUCCESS- Whatever that means to you!
No more waiting, No more wondering, NO NO NO there isn't time for that now, YOU need you and WE need you!!
Commit TODAY, NOW, THIS SECOND To yourself!!! To really letting your light, your happiness, your BRILLIANCE shine through to this world that is dying for more of it.
Much love and health to you
    Jennifer XOXO
PS Take this seriously, I know one moment in time can be LIFE CHANGING!

  • Essential Tips to Fight Food Cravings

Newport Skinny Tea is designed to help you with your food cravings, but sometimes cravings persist... generally when I dig deeper, its because someone is trying to drink NST and keep eating a really poor diet that does not support their body at all, which creates what I call an awful CRAVINGS CYCLE...

If you think that your food cravings are only a result of your emotions, urging you to eat foods that are not good for your health then you need to think again. Nutritionists suggest that there is a lot more to food cravings than just emotional urges. According to nutritionists your cravings can also be the result of fatigue and stress that tend to lower the blood sugar and nutrient levels in your body. Your body is crying out for NUTRIENTS to balance itself.

This, in turn, causes your hormones to go haywire and you end up eating foods that contain high amounts of sugar to try to feel better. While, these foods can satisfy your cravings at the time, your body won’t be getting the essential nutrients that boost energy levels and repair itself. And when your energy is zero, you just end up eating more junk food. However, there are ways you can tackle your junk food cravings and get out of the negative craving cycle you may be stuck in:

    Distract Yourself

Nutritionists suggest that food cravings usually last for only fifteen minutes and if you can convince yourself to wait for these fifteen minutes, the craving is likely to pass away. You can distract yourself by going out for a walk, reading a book or doing some light exercises that might compel you to eat something healthy after. Worst distraction: TV, which may have commercials designed to entice you to eat more. Best distraction: journaling about what is bugging you!

    Knowing the Trigger

Before you start eating unhealthy foods it is important understand factors that trigger your appetite in the first place. For example, if you feel like eating 2 bags of chips, gulping it down with 3 cans of coke after work then you might be under a lot of job stress. Poor consumption of water can also trigger your thirst for carbonated drinks. You may also be skipping meals, to tackle your triggers it is important to have your meals on time along with eating natural fruit sugar to calm your cravings. It is also important that you deal with your stress rather than suppressing it, deep breathing, meditation, exercise and our Sunset Beach Relaxing Tea can help get your stress levels under control.

    Keep Track

Keep a track of when your food cravings hit you if you notice that these have become a regular occurrence with you. If you notice that these occur after dinner around 8 pm at night then probably you owe these to an emotional factor. Figure out why you have been under stress lately, it takes some honesty but in the end you will become free of your emotional stress eating. Ultimately, you need to put yourself first, making sure that you are getting what you need from the people around you to feel supported.

However, if these occur somewhere around 3 pm then it may be a sign that your body’s nutritional needs are not being fulfilled. Look into your diet and try to figure out what is lacking, are you consuming the right amount of protein? Are eating fruits and vegetables? It is important to find the right balance in your diet, remember the hormonal influence of each meal lasts a maximum of 5 hours, then you have another chance to get it right. Don’t waste one minute feeling bad about what you have eaten, this will only lead to more stress, just plan to get it right the next time.

    Allow Yourself to Indulge Occasionally

Telling yourself that you will never eat another Dorito or Krispy Kreme as long as you live will probably backfire on you, if you truly love eating a particular junk food, the best way to keep it under control is to plan to eat it occasionally, which means once a week or less. If you know that you are completely helpless when certain foods are in the house, only buy it when you go out, and do not bring it into the house. At holiday celebrations, make sure you fill up on the healthiest options first, then let yourself have whatever treat you want. One meal is not going to ruin you so enjoy your family’s celebration, just don’t let the indulging become consistent for you.

Sincerest wishes that this helps you during the holiday season!

    5 minutes easy warm up
One to Two Sets Maximum Reps of
    Push-ups
    Squats
    Pull Ups or Lunges
    Abdominal Planks
    Cool Down Stretch

    Mindset:

If you're on this journey with me, I know one thing about you- You're a HERO, you've stepped up to go through this new journey, to achieve something spectacular, to solve your problem and help yourself.

Heroes aren't just in movies and books, heroes are anyone that dares to put themselves into a situation where they are in danger, they risk revealing their own vulnerabilities, injury, peril and possibly failure. They are the opposite of victims.

Do you see yourself as a hero?

Having been where you are, I feel safe in saying the answer may be NO.

But its time to change that, even though I may not exactly be done with my journey entirely, I've seen enough to know that we are definitely HEROES and we need to start treating ourselves like the special people we are.

Our journey is important, and has the potential to change the lives of everyone around us, for the better. Think of the way you impact others when you encourage them to be healthier, simply by asking someone to take a walk with you can be enough to change their health and their lives.

I know how easy it is to underestimate your influence, especially when it comes to food & health, I challenge you to simply be an example of good choices and good health. To be the brave person I know you are, I don't think you ever even need to talk about what you're doing differently, people will see the positive change you are making and the belief you have in yourself, and they will be inspired, so don't be surprised when people start asking you what you are doing differently!

If you need to, create an alter ego Hero persona, I talked about that last challenge here on the blog. Until it becomes comfortable for you to treat your choices and your life as heroic. Its only one tiny decision, that can make a huge difference.

Don't forget to double knot your cape ;)
